I have been reading so many novels in the chick-lit/women's fiction/romance genre of late, and one thing is starting to become quite apparent to me, so I am just going to say it...
I am not a fan of the rehash!
Now for some of you who have just stopped reading because I have greatly offended you (I am so sorry!!) I hope that those who are left will happily continue.
For every story that has one of those amazing 'book boyfriends' that we just can't seem to get enough of, and you all know what I am talking about. The sexy, unbelievably good-looking guy who avoids relationships and prefers his company to be the casual kind; until he meets.... the girl (swoon) As soon as their journey ends we all crave the same story but from our new crush's perspective as well. Of course the audience just can't get enough, and so authors grant their readers exactly what they want - to get inside the dream guys mind (because unfortunately we can't get into his life). Now being female, we all would want to know how the opposite sex thinks sometimes, yet as much as I myself crave his POV - as soon as I have it, I am quickly over it. The few chapters of real insight or story we haven't had the privilege of reading yet, is the parts that do intrigue me, but do we really need the rehash exactly the way the original story was told?
Is it better to have a few chapters woven into the first story from our book bf's POV, so we get insight into the parts that the reader really, really wants to know? Or are rehash's equally loved by their readers?
I find this topic really interesting, and so I go back to my original statement.
I am not a fan of the rehash.....
I will however, let you in on a little secret. I am one of those readers who becomes so into a story, that I can't seem to get enough. Any book that will continue their journey, and the fact that I also get some insight into those swoon-worthy moments and to-die-for emotions - is on my shelf ready to go. So perhaps despite my bold statement, I too, can't get enough of the rehash either.
I would love to know your thoughts on this topic as well..
