So I have been reading and editing my novel like a complete and utter mad woman ready for its release - which is coming up much faster than I thought possible! The funny thing is though, I actually finished this novel about two years ago where it has remained virtually untouched. But now, as soon as I make the decision to go public with it, I am anxiously thinking that it isn't quite ready. Go figure :)
I have always maintained that the reason I decided to publish this book was because... well, why not? I am not trying to quit my day job or become the next best seller - I really just enjoy writing. For me, it's enough that I really like my book so why is it that I am stressing about other people reading it?
It's because writing is personal. It's because writing, like other creative avenues like art, is measured on the thoughts and eye of the reader. There isn't a certain scale where one could say you aim for so you know you have written a successful novel. Some of the most popular or highest sold books out there aren't even the best written work. But what they DID have is a story. A compelling journey of character development that readers couldn't help but fall in love with.
So here I ask, does it really matter if I spend another month just reading it over and over, correcting every single sentence? If anything, it may make the story lose what made it compelling in the first place...
This publishing thing is such a long process and I am glad that you are able to share it with me.
